Pantalone's Purloined Purse

Ladies and Gentlemen. I am Edgar, America’s favorite poet. How ere, I shall not forsoothe you here this eve, for I have a grandier mission to achieve. Ha Ha Ha. This is the Theata, my life. And you, as guests, paying guests I assume, are about to embark on a journey of antiquity. You are about to enter a world of memories, dreams, attitudes, scenarios, hopes and fears of a world that once was but is no more. I speak not of the last election but of a more profound experience. The experience of the Commedia del Arte. Theata of the Italian common man (and of course woman) if there be such a thing as a common woman. Mi Amore !

Eastern Connecticut State University offered another challenge, er, opportunity.  I was asked to teach an improvisation class and out of the class to create a full length Commedia del Arte production from scratch with students who had never studied or performed Commedia or possibly even heard of it.
No Problem. Let's do it.  And we did!

Pedrolino
Brighella  and  Pantalone
Pedrolino

Harlequino
Dottore  and  Pantalone

"Yes, I am El Capitano and these lovely ladies find me absolutely irresistable and adorable, as all ladies do.  You too undoubtedly find me adorable because I am adorable and you have my permission to adore me from afar or adore from anear or peruse from the rear, if you will, but not at present for, as you can see, I have much satifaction to imbue.  Ta ta, ta ta to you and you and you."

The plot line will not interfere with the enjoyment of the show.

This script is available for rental and production purposes.
